Thanks for the follow up. You are certainly one in the knows.
As you pointed out, the rank title is different in every firm. The example title rank track I gave is just an example, but the ranking over all holds true in most firm if you take out the title(s) not applicable to a firm.
Firms has both VP and Director/Principle titles, Director/Principle is normally more senior than VP.
UBS has AD, Director, ED and MD rank track.
The main point I was trying to make is that the rank title does not mean so much in terms of someone's authority and responsibility. Therefore, it certainly very misleading to tie the rank title with a pay grade as in the article without even mention the importance of responsibility title.
Even for someone to obtain the 2nd step up rank (SVP or Director) in 10 years, it is not something worth boast about in a newspaper article.
I'm no super star, but I made Director at UBS in 3 years. Two girls, one from mainland and another from Taiwan made Director in 4 years. This was in the 90s before the ti<x>tle inflation.
