中国的家里没有温馨 and 却搭配得赏心悦目，那多半是外国人的家. I don't knowwhere you got this impression from?? You don't know what you are talking about. How many Chinese houses and Foreigners' families you have visited? Do you possess your own house(s)?? Have you done your own DIY ever? both in America and in China??
For your information, I have been guest to the US Senator's home, Fortune 500 ceos' homes, and Dr. An Wang's home (my relative). Generally speaking 华人家 more 温馨, the others' more showy, but all with high level of luxury. The bottom line is to make your home really cosy. I do diy for my houses in America for 1). saving the money, 2)taking my mind off my business. I replace bathroom stools, change gutters, doors, lay carpets for small rooms, repair/maitain swimming pool, clean the yards, cut down the trees, etc. you name it. I had to hire contractors to do hardwood floors and window replacement though. However, in China I don't have to do anything because the labor is relatively inexpensive. You have to use good materials in China because the quality for cheapy materials is really bad. Since you mentioned Toto brand name. Yes, I used all Toto items for my bathrooms. Tell you what. After three years I already had problems with the showers, sinks, bathtub and stools. Some of the ceramic parts were peeled off so I have to replace them. 中国人到底为什么一定要把二手房重新彻底装修一遍呢. Sometimes they have to! The only difference to me is: I don't fix it if it is not broken!
