1). Find out if China is covered by this patent.
2). who is the owner of this patent? inventors or Institution?. As such, you know your rivals.
3). What are the options for securing this patent? sub-licensing, buying-out, or investment.
4). What do you want? exclusivity or not? do you want to sublicense it in the future?
5). Negotiation power from you side.
6). There are many ways to secure a patent, and it can be creative too. Some payments I can think of, coverage of patent cost, up-front payment, milestone payment, step payment, equity payment (including share swapping), royalty payment. It is all negotiable.
7). Negotiation is a process, not an event. Be patient.
