Product Managers are the General Managers of their product lines and are responsible for defining, prioritizing, planning and driving the execution of the vision for their product lines. Product Managers must possess business acumen as well as engineering wherewithal in order to be able to strategize, drive and bring their product to market. Spirent Product Mangers work cross functionally internally with Product Marketing, Engineering, Sales, Corporate Marketing and Alliance Partners in order to successfully prioritize product requirements and bring to market the products that our customers need.
Job Summary:
The Product Manager for Applications/Security/Media will focus on test and measurement solutions running on a multitude of different hardware and virtualized platforms with an emphasis on media – VoIP, Video Streaming, next generation web applications. Our customers include network equipment vendors, service providers and carriers, and enterprise/government accounts, each with their own specific needs and expertise of testing. A Spirent Product Manager has overall responsibility for requirements analysis and prioritization, roadmap and release management, while continually aligning product roadmap to customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
The Product Manager is responsible for looking holistically at the layer 4-7 application, security and network media (Voice video and Unified Communications) markets as they pertain to Test & Measurement and understand the key gaps and opportunities , develop a product evolution vision translated into product roadmap and driving cross-functional teams towards execution of the video. With an emphasis on media (Voice, video and UC), storage applications and IPv6 related features and functionality. This role will also have assignments in other others of L4-7 testing beyond that of media.
The role has in-bound product management responsibility for defining and driving the Spirent Applications and security product roadmap and test methodologies that results in value-add product offerings. The role requires a broad skill set that leverages experiences in product development, quality assurance, datacenter, service provider and enterprise infrastructure. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to distill the key issues from complex problems.
This Product Manager role will also have responsibilities for involvement and resolution in pre and post post sales customer issue escalation processes and interfacing with Global Services Customer Experience Managers.
• Create and maintain competitive strategy that incorporates detailed knowledge of network video /voice markets.
• Create and maintain competitive strategy that incorporates detailed knowledge network storage market.
• Create collateral around L4-7 testing solutions including datasheets, application notes, use case, white papers, competitive hit sheets, and other product supporting material
• Create/define and maintain a growing database of test methodologies for Sprient’s Next Generation L4-7 test solutions based on customer and overall market needs
• Create training and transfer of information materials for Spirent internal resources – Support, Business development and sales team specialists
• Interface with cross functional development and Product Management teams in Beijing and Sunnyvale locations
• Translate customer requirements into documented use cases and product requirements for engineering.
• Managing the product lifecycle process from inception through product launch and delivery to EOL.
• Develop product collateral, including presentations to sales engineers and easy to understand datasheets for customers.
• Work closely with sales to identify and address broad industry and product trends.
Job Requirements:
• 3-5 years of experience at a network equipment manufacturer, large scale data center, or service provider with networking responsibilities.
• Demonstrated record of defining and driving to launch successful products.
• Domain experience in layer 4-7 protocols.
• Knowledge of key technologies: TCP/IP networking and Internet technologies (HTTP ABR Streaming, SIP, RTP, RTSP, PPP, IPSEC, SSL, Web Protocols, NFS, CIFS, SMB, SMB2, 802.1x, HTTP IPv6).
• Experience in Agile development processes
• Working experience with next generation networking devices and technologies such as multipurpose firewalls, application services, servers, caches, SLBs, DPI, Video, IPTV, streaming over HTTP, storage devices.
• Experience with Test & Measurement tools like Spirent, Ixia, Shenick, Swifttest, and others.
• BS in Computer Science or related technical degree, MBA preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong awareness of technology trends and potential influence on Spirent business.
• Must be able to demonstrate both a passion for technology and a strong aptitude for business strategy.
• Travel up to 25 % of time

• PM experience working with next generation content delivery devices - Nextgen firewalls, Content delivery networks, IPsec gateways, video services, voice services (we still need experience in these areas of voice and video)
• Ability to take on new protocols quickly as l4-7 is very dynamic (this was always a requirement in the Appsec space)
• Experience with Agile process now that we have fully adopted it
• Working with or experience with test gear - be it Spirent or competitors
