Domain Architect
Description:
Responsible for initiating, developing, and maintaining or implementing policies, programs, and processes in support of the development of an domain architecture capability for General Motors. Work involves a great deal of creativity, perception, and initiative, and decisions are made where clearly established policies or procedures are not fully developed.
Activities:
•Stay informed of technology trends and best practices by attending briefings and other industry forums.
•Apply trends and best practices to the To Be solution architectures.
•Maintain people network (connections/communcations) with Application Management Service Centres, SDF resources (AIM-E architects), Regional Architects, IIM/OM Architects and ADS suppliers to educate and communicate To Be architectures, ensuring an effective process and platform for exchanging creative and innovative ideas, and identifying and solving incidents before they become significant problems.
•Assist in the development of the contextual, conceptual, and logical business and application architectures, using architecture templates, patterns, and standards.
•Create and maintain ‘As-Is’ and ‘To-Be’ architectural environment strategy and system landscape.
•Create and maintain project architecture documentation, such as system landscape roadmap, architecture solutions, functional area architecture, integration strategy, integration landscape, and functional architecture documentation using architecture standards for common and enterprise services (functions).
•Enforce compliance with enterprise and GBS architecture and standards.
•Provide product technical evaluations.
•Define convergence plans and integrate into project architectural deliverables.
•Provide architectural assistance in the annual portfolio planning process.
•Given a set of requirements, define and execute strategies and plans for ensuring and demonstrating that the solution satisfies the documented architecture.
•Manage and plan assignments along with priority goals and requirements in the preparation of complex projects.
•Given a project plan, identify those elements of the plan that put the integrity of the architectural elements at risk and manage those elements through to the agreement by the client/project manager that the project has been successfully completed.
•Given a technical solution and the underlying business requirements that drove its development, assess the technical integrity and risks inherent in that solution in such a way that the recommendations and findings are appropriate and implementable.
•Given approved business goals, objectives, and constraints, document, clarify, refine, detail, and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements.
Candidate Qualifications (General Skills)
•Maintains effectiveness in changing environments and with different technologies, people, responsibilities and/or market.
•Actively identifies new areas of for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities. Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise.
•Good written communications, including the use of proper grammar, spelling, document organization, clarity, and use of content appropriate for the audience.
•Good verbal communications, including strong eye contact (where culturally appropriate), responsiveness to questions, ability to stay on subject, use of good feedback, and follow-up questions, etc., so that effective two-way communications is demonstrated.
•Very high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicits work output. Ability to mediate opposing viewpoints and negotiate equitable solutions to ensure successful and stable outcomes.
•Understand the stakeholders' business needs and how they relate to their business and mission.
•Use modeling techniques – such as use case, scenario modeling, prototyping, benchmarking, and performance modeling – to describe the problem space, to size the solution and to validate that the proposed architecture addresses the business requirements.
•Delivery focused - establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project.
•Secures relevant information and identifies key issues and relationships to resolve.
•Exposure to systems development methodologies (RUP, CMMi, Method/1).
•Experience with automotive OEM clients or relevant alternate domain experience.
Required Experience
•10+ years total IT/computer experience with 5+ years as a systems architect.
•Systems development experience where Agile development methodology employed by project.
•Experience in several architecture areas (mainframe, midrange (Unix/AS400/etc.), middleware, databases, ERP/COTS implementations, PC’s/Desktop, web development, security.
•Informal leadership experience.
•Be proficient in the frame design of the Applications in UNIX environment;
•Be skilled in J2EE technology and Oracle database;
•Experience with Mainframe technology is a plus;
•Fluent in English communication and excellent in documentation;
•Be available for frequent international travel.
