Business Analyst
Role Mission
A Business Analyst delivers services to business and IT implementation projects providing support both to the customer and the IT organization with focus on business change and business development.
The Professional Development Steps for a Business Analyst are C, D and E.
Role Context
The Business Analyst is mainly working in the Discover & Define and Develop processes.
For each step the complexity and scope of the assignment increases. The responsibilities in the delivery and the customer relation also vary between different role levels - step E assignments typically are larger and more complex.
Responsibilities and Powers
Key responsibilities
• Understands customer and user requirements, their strategies, and their goals.
• Facilitates modelling and analysis of the customer organisation in terms of ob<x>jectives, business processes and operations.
• Understands the relation between business and IT requirements and suggests solutions.
• Describes the workflow and the high-level requirements for IT solutions to support the business processes.
• Proposes changes in business processes, IT implementations and operations.
• Performs a cost/benefit analysis for any suggested changes in the customer organisation.
• Identifies new functionality and depending on role level provides support to Account managers and others who market and sell the end-product of the project.
• Drives assignments, understands complex issues and points out opportunities and risks.
• Responsible for ensuring that the developed solution complies with given specifications and customer quality requirements.
• Authorized to make commitments within the tasks concerning business process definitions.
• Authorised to suggest alternative solutions and point out deficiencies related to quality requirements in projects to project managers when necessary.

• Acts as coach for colleagues at step C
Additional responsibilities for Professional Development Step E
• Builds and strengthens long-term relationship with the customer.
• Acts as a domain expert towards the customer.
• Evaluates and enhances concepts, models, methods and tools for Business Analysts.
• Initiates and leads knowledge sharing and delivers training for colleagues.
• Acts as mentor for colleagues on lower levels
