In 1998, a little-known Swedish Europop singer named Emilia charmed Europe with her sweet brand of bubblegum pop. Though she achieved massive success in Scandinavia with her debut, Big Big World, she remains unknown here in the states. However, I don't think bubblegum is the right word to describe the sound of Big Big World. In truth, there's no one word that can describe it, as it's a motley mix of everything from jazz to techno to pop. Emilia's voice is kind of like a cross between Norah Jones and Janet Jackson, but even that isn't very accurate because her voice is all her own. Big Big World is unlike any other album in my collection, simply because it is so diverse and so different from everything else out there. Emilia is a rare talent who deserves a lot more exposure and promotion here in the states.
