Recent years, the pollution of the water resources by sewage and industrial wastes is coming up as a serious problem, so as atmosphere, and in-house room.
The increase of the chlorine use for sterilization of the water causes not only the carcinogenic odor , but also the by-products of chemical reactions between pollutants and chlorine ,such as Tri-halo-methane a cause of cancer, which cannot be removed by filtration or absorption .
NOx contained in the exhausted Gus of the automobile is the major pollutant of atmosphere.
Even in a house, various chemicals use for a building materials, such as binders for wall board blow out Form Aldehyde, considered to cause children's diseases.
The Photocatalyst is one of the efficient way to solve these problems, can decompose such organic compounds in the environment. We developed coating process for Titanium dioxide (TiO2) transparent thin film, using Sol-Gel method.
Photocatalyst is a semiconductor that strong oxidation occuers on the surface by the UV light exposure. And the organic compounds, bacteria which sticks to it's surface can be removed with this oxidation power.
When the surface of the TiO2 transparent thin film, are exposed by the UV lights, negatively charged particles – electrons—are released, just as the same way as the electron released when sunlight hits the surface of the silicon solar power cells. Simultaneously, positively charged holes are formed on the surface of the thin film at the mark that a electron released.
These electron and positive holes create very strong oxidizers, called the hydroxide radical, even stronger than the chlorine used as a sterilizer, hypochlorous acid, and ozone. When harmful substances stick to the positive holes, they are completely broken down into the carbon dioxide and other harmless compounds. The hydroxide radical also can inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold.
