Do you have a track record of delivering high quality software products? The Yahoo! search team is seeking an experienced engineering manager to lead our Chinese web search team. Yahoo! recently joined efforts with Alibaba to set up a leading internet company in China. As manager of the Chinese web search team, you will play a leadership role in making Alibaba/Yahoo! the leading search engine in China.
Essential Responsibilities
Provide strong leadership to your team, in both management and technical aspects. Effectively collaborate with product managers and the Alibaba team in China to develop web search product roadmap for China. Forecast resource needs for meeting the expectations of the roadmap. Recruit strong engineers and help them come up to speed quickly. Foster an environment for team members to be productive, innovative, and to have high job satisfaction. Lead the lifecycle of product development, from requirements, design, implementation, testing, to deployment. Define, track, and improve key product metrics. Build strong working relationship and trust with the Alibaba team and product management through on-time delivery, high quality, continuous innovation, and meeting expectations. Provide timely sustaining engineering support for high priority product problems.
Required Knowledge
* Fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
* Minimum four years of experience in building and leading teams developing complex software.
* Minimum eight years of experience in the software industry.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with people from a variety of technical and cultural background.
* Strong Experience in C or C++, and UNIX development tools.
* M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science preferred.
* Experience with web applications preferred.
* Experience in search engine or information retrieval preferred.
* Experience in software internationalization preferred.
* Experience in Chinese text processing preferred.
